the good...the bad...

So, I went to the dentist today...

The Good: It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I have an icky history w/dentists being too rough on my sensitive teeth and speaking to me in a very condescending tone. not today, they took xrays, didn't poke too much at the tooth because they didn't want to hurt it! woot.

The Bad: I either have to get a root canal (which will be a little more work then a usual one due to how the tooth broke) or possibly yank the tooth and get an implant. It's my call apparently...so far the root canal is what I'm thinking, want a consult on the other option, just so I know.

The good: I told them my finantial situation and they're totally willing to work on a payment plan with me.

The bad: I need to have $350 down to get the procedure done (since I'm not insured and all). Much as I am scared shitless at either prospect and it's gonna' hurt (be worse if I don't get it done however...), it needs to get done.

all in all, not a terrible visit...

I had a root canal because I needed one. I later had to have that same tooth pulled. The root canal was easy. The pulling was a bit more... involved. Gas is your friend.

Check out prices for implants before you decide.

Oh, they'll have to knock me out before either procedure is done (otherwise I pass out..and wake up, and when I wake up from that...not good).

I'm calling my dentist today to see if I can get a reccomendation to the oral surgeon for a consultation, don't worry. I plan on getting as much info on both options.

Keep your original teeth if you can. The more you remove (even if you replace them with reasonable facimiles) the weaker those around them are. Leastwise this is what I was told when I asked about the risks of replacement. So...ask your dentist way more questions if you're not sure right now.

I didn't know that actually, hence why I plan to get another consultation soon.

The dentist told me there are risks (root canal getting infected, trouble with the implant, etc) either way. All I know is it's gonna' get fixed somehow.

You know what this means right?
Tooth Benefit Party!

After the thanksgiving I would be very proud to throw it.

a root canal done right is pretty painless beyond the novocaine shots. i've had two root canals done. one was on top and because of where the tooth was they had to give me the shot in the roof of my mouth. hurt pretty bad and made my eyes water for a couple seconds. but once the shot was in, it was smooth sailing.

is there a time this weekend i could swing by and get the soap from you?

I'm terrible about any procedure, hence why I wanna' be sedated (and yes, I was singing Ramones yesterday heh). I am working long hours Friday and Saturday, but I will be available after 7 on Sunday :)
